Who I am

Hi, I’m Matt Welch.

Who I am: 28. Writer/editor/communicator turned ad agency account guy. I’m married to Christine, I work at Carrot Creative and I live in Brooklyn.

Where I came from:

I’m a proud 2011 graduate of DePauw University, where I joined Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) and worked for The DePauw. I was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and lived in Portage until I was 10.  (Yes, there really is a Kalamazoo.) Then I moved to Carmel, Indiana, with my family. I graduated from Carmel High School in 2006.

Since college, I’ve lived in Gainesville, Florida, Indianapolis and Chicago, and I’m a former staffer at Avenue, the NYT International Weekly and the North-American Interfraternity Conference.

Things I enjoy: watching documentaries on Netflix; reading news and analysis of anything and everything on the Internet; speaking Spanish; eating chocolate; drinking good beer; living and exploring in big cities; race walking and cycling; hanging out with my dog; spending time with friends and family; walking or biking instead of driving; thinking and reading; having deep and difficult conversations; being challenged; traveling to strange and unique places; being myself.
